GLOSSARY
Browser – software used to surf the Web
Dial-up Service – gets you on the Internet through your phone line
Domain – the name of a site on the Worldwide Web
DSL – Data Service Line, available through the phone company
High Speed Access – gets you on the Internet through cable or DSL
Home Page – the first thing people see when they connect to your domain
Hosting Service – provides the space (memory allocation) for a
Web site on the Internet
ISP – Internet Service Provider (for dial-up or high speed access)
Keywords – words embedded in Web pages that do not appear
on-screen but are referenced by Search Engines
Link – label/address for another Web location that takes you there

Mail Client – this refers to a piece of software that retrieves, sends and manages e-mail on your computer; examples: Outlook, Eudora Navigation – refers to the links used to get from one web page to another within a single site
POP3 Retrieval – a protocol for downloading e-mail from an on-line mailbox into e-mail software on a specific computer (see "mail client")
Search Engines – on-line utilities that search the Web ["google" is a search engine]
