How high can this series go? 1 - 3 - 5 - 7 - 9 - 11 - 13 - 15 - STOP!! A 15th is two octaves! We're back to the note where we started. Since 15 = 1, the highest number used in a chord is 13. |

G13: The only regular, complete 13th that uses all naturals! Notice there are three major triads in this chord (G, C, F). If the B were flat it would be C13. Flat the E also and you get F13. F(#11): In the F-scale, the B would be flat, so that B-natural is a raised 11th. But it could be G(b13)/F. D13(b9): The 11th is missing but that's not a Bmb11b9/D because only major chords get double-digit numbers. A13/C#: The diminished C# triad cannot be the root of this high number chord. And it's very rare for anything higher than the 7th to be the bass note. |
